Process Control of Feed Liquid Atomization in Centrifugal Spray Dryers
The atomization process of the feed liquid in a centrifugal spray dryer is the core of the drying operation, directly influencing product particle size, uniformity, and moisture content. Therefore, it must be carefully controlled to ensure that atomization performance aligns with drying quality. The key to the atomization process lies in converting the feed liquid into fine droplets, thereby increasing the contact area with the hot air, accelerating water evaporation, and achieving rapid drying.
Prior to atomization, the feed liquid must undergo proper pretreatment to ensure uniform concentration and the absence of impurity‑induced agglomeration, thereby preventing clogging of the atomizer or compromising atomization performance. Based on the feed liquid’s viscosity, flow characteristics, and other properties, adjust the atomizer speed and feed rate to produce uniformly sized droplets. The atomizer speed is closely linked to droplet size; appropriate adjustment enables compatibility with the particle‑size requirements of different products.
During the atomization process, the atomization angle must be carefully controlled to ensure uniform distribution of droplets within the drying tower, thereby preventing localized droplet concentrations that could cause wall adhesion or uneven distribution that compromises drying efficiency. Simultaneously, by adjusting the hot‑air temperature and velocity, the droplets are brought into thorough contact with the hot air as they fall, enabling rapid dehydration and minimizing variations in product moisture content.
The atomization system must operate reliably; regularly inspect the atomizer for wear and promptly remove any residual liquid to prevent clogging of the atomizing nozzles. If issues such as uneven droplet size or unstable atomization performance arise, adjust the feed parameters or service the atomization components. By precisely controlling each stage of the atomization process, the centrifugal spray dryer can maintain stable operation, enhance product quality consistency, and meet the drying requirements of diverse industries, including food, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.
